An award of any kind is given to those who merit it. Awards should not be sold or given to corrupt individuals who would make a mockery of the good intentions that such honours tend to highlight and achieve. Our point is this: why should the National Honours Award be given to Nigeria’s minister of education? Universities in Nigeria have been closed down for months. Despite that, President Buhari’s government gave the award to a man who does not know how to manage his ministry. Nigeria’s minister of education should not have been given any award. The Viewers Corner News team see him as a man who is incompetent and does not care about the welfare of the Nigerian students because he has his children studying in various schools abroad. This is the truth; take it or leave it. The same goes for Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state. This is a governor whom the federal government of Nigeria accused of embezzling the COVID-19 relief fund. A governor who subjected the people of his state to begging for what they should not have begged for. A governor who is very corrupt. Recently, he supervised the flogging of some civil servants in Ebonyi state who came late to work and many more. He should not have been given such an award. Again, before any award is given to anyone, there should be a fact-finding team to check if the individual merits the award or not. But in Nigeria, under the APC/President Buhari’s leadership, an award can be given to anyone, as it pleases them, which is bad. An Award should be seen as an honour which those coming behind would always want to know why such Award is given out. Knowing the greatness of such an award, it would then encourage more people to work hard in life, so that in the future, they can also receive such an honour. It is a way to promote patriotism in a country so that others will learn and follow suit.
