SOME MILITARY MEN IN THE PAST ALLEGEDLY CONVERTED THE SHIPS BELONGING TO NIGERIA (NATIONAL SHIPPING LINE) TO THEIR OWN PRIVATE BUSINESS AND USED THEM FOR YEARS WITH IMPUNITY, THIS IS TOO BAD.

Ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo is an elder statesman, a great man to reckon with anytime, anywhere. A man with wisdom etc. but his recent advice to the federal government of Nigeria not to resuscitate the Nigeria National Shipping line is not quite appropriate. We (Viewers corner) believe that Nigeria has all it takes to bring back this aspect of business into the economy, maritime industry is very lucrative and can create lots of jobs which would bring benefits to the Nigerian economy. Again while it failed in the past was as a result of corruption and the I don’t care attitude towards the industry. The men in-charge of that division as at that time were men with questionable characters and leaders who were supposed to look into what was happening in various departments of the economy then were busy pursuing petroleum products only thereby neglecting every other aspect of the business in the economy. That was why some military men were able to convert the ships meant for a country (Nigeria) to their own personal property and used them around the world on gainful purposes, all the proceeds were never brought back to the federal government of Nigeria. Even when ex president Olusegun Obasanjo was in power, he knew about it and did not do anything to bring those men to face the law, this is not right. Normally such act is punishable by law no matter who that military person or persons may be because they took the Nigerian ships and convert them for personal use, this is unbelievable. A whole national property belonging to a country (Nigeria), some group of individuals converted them to private use. Honestly this is unacceptable, all these were done with impunity because no one would do them anything. Now with this sort of attitude, how can Nigeria move forward? This means every division of the Nigerian economy is corrupt which means president Buhari and his government have lots of works to do if they truly want to eradicate corruption completely in the country (Nigeria). On this note, we are appealing to president Buhari and his government to reopen the files of those that managed the Nigeria National Shipping line in the past and see what went wrong. Again it is very important for Nigeria as a nation to resuscitate the maritime industry because the advantages of such venture is huge but only if managed properly by qualified and dedicated individuals. Nigeria is a great country and can do nicely if the leaders can control corruption among themselves and also create an atmosphere which would enable citizens of the country (Nigeria) to live a normal and happy life.
