SOME GOVERNORS IN NIGERIA SAID THAT THE NEW MINIMUM WAGE OF THIRTY THOUSAND NAIRA WOULD BE TOO MUCH FOR THEM TO PAY WORKERS. WHAT A SAD AND UNFORTUNATE STATEMENT COMING FROM SUCH GROUP OF NONE PERFORMING GOVERNORS.

The problem in Nigeria is not only leadership but also those who brought those leaders there which are the Nigerian voters. They (Nigerian voters) contributed a whole lot to the problems of the country, perhaps for a temporal gains by selling their conscience and in the long run they will begin to suffer unending economic hardship. Look at most states across Nigeria today, those governors who could not pay workers salaries and pensioners allowances got re-elected to office for another tenure because most Nigerian voters sold their conscience for peanuts. A governor who stole billions of money belonging to the people of his state and use it for personal gains believes that when election comes, he or she would push some cash to the voters and get what he or she wants which has always been part of the problems in Nigeria. To solve this issue, more political/leadership awareness campaign should be engaged. Let the Nigerian public know the implications of voting a corrupt and selfish leader to office because at the end, it is the people of Nigeria that will suffer the economic hardship. Look at Ebonyi state (Nigeria) for example, governor David Umahi is already complaining that the new minimum wage recently approved by the federal government of Nigeria may be too much for most states across Nigeria to pay to workers. If it were in a society where the voters can properly read the handwritings on the wall, such governor should not have been re-elected to office for another tenure and if you look at governor David Umahi’s records, he is among those owing salaries of workers and pensioners allowances in Nigeria. This is a governor till today has no permanent secretary in his state, everything is done by him so as to cover his dirty tracks. Another problem is that most media organisations in Nigeria dance to the tune of some governors for only God knows their reasons. However, we (Viewers Corner News team) are appealing to them to do more of investigative journalism, expose those corrupt and selfish politicians so that the voters in the country (Nigeria) would get up to date information on any candidate before casting their votes for whosoever they wish to cast their votes for. Such system would be very helpful and educative if followed, it would also guide the Nigerian voters towards making a good choice. Somehow in the long run such positive awareness program if created by the media can lead to building a healthy society which would benefit everyone across the country (Nigeria). We shall write more on this topic in our future article.
