What went wrong in Venezuela? A one time leading petroleum producing nation of the world now struggling to feed her citizens. Recently some shop owners in the country (Venezuela) were shocked when some angry citizens of Venezuela broke into their shops and made away with all the food items in their shops as a result of hunger, this is very serious and the government right now has no clue on what to do as regards bringing the country back to normal. Our correspondent in Caracas (Venezuela) who was on the ground to witness the angry looters breaking into shops just to get food for their families to eat said that things generally are terribly bad in the country. The worst thing that can happen to anyone is when you wake up in the morning and could not find anything to eat, the situation in Venezuela is so pitiful and the blame to some extent should go to the government because during the days of oil boom in the country, they put all their hopes in the sales of oil to make a living without thinking that some day the unexpected could happen just like we are seeing in the world today. The prices of petroleum products fluctuating and the petroleum consumer’s nations of the world have started looking for alternative means to end their much quest for petroleum products. In the past, the Venezuelan leaders never cared about economic diversification because money from oil was coming nicely and as at that time, they imported almost all the essential commodities to feed their citizens which is wrong and that is one of the reasons the country is in this situation.
We wrote articles in the past on this topic asking the petroleum producing nations of the world most especially the third world countries to carry out reforms and start economic diversification, investing on mechanized farming so that at the end they could grow enough to feed their citizens while they research on other profitable ventures to sustain their economy before it is too late. This will help them to avoid such situation like we have seen in Venezuela today, third world countries who depend solely on petroleum to make a living should please think twice now and do the right thing.
