Shinzo Abe

Shinzo Abe, a former prime minister of Japan, was shot during a political campaign rally and passed away in the hospital.

Shinzo Abe was shot twice by a shooter identified as Tetsuya Yamagami during his address on a street in the city of Nara on Friday morning. Tetsuya Yamagami, 41, confessed killing Abe with a handmade pistol and he is currently in police custody. The suspect claimed he had a grudge against a particular organisation. After searching the suspect’s home, police discovered many other homemade weapons that were identical to those used in the assault and took them into custody. According to medical doctors, the incident left Abe with two gunshot wounds to his neck and heart. Abe underwent more than 100 blood transfusions over the course of four hours before being declared dead. The longest-serving prime minister in Japan, Shinzo Abe, served in that position from 2006 to 2020 and again from 2012 to 2020 before resigning due to health concerns. He promoted an economic strategy known as “Abenomics,” which was based on monetary easing, fiscal stimulus, and structural changes. He was succeeded by Yoshihide Suga, a trusted party friend, who was then succeeded by Fumio Kishida. May his soul rest in peace.
