An Egyptian court has sentenced seven men who were involved in shooting police general Nabil Farrag dead in the September 2013 unrest following military overthrow of former president Mohamed Morsi. These men who were considered to be members of a Muslim Brotherhood in Cairo were sentenced to hanging on Saturday, September 24, 2016. On September 2013, General Nabil Farag was shot on the chest which resulted to his death when police officers raided Kerdassa village near Cairo where former president Mohamed Morsi’s supporters had hidden after his overthrow. Five other defendants were sentenced to 10 years in prison and one person acquitted by the court. Ex-president Mohamed Morsi’s removal from power after one year in office caused unrest in Egypt and this saw hundreds of his supporters killed and thousands detained.
