SENATOR ROCHAS OKOROCHA’S SUGGESTION OF ONE SENATOR FROM EACH STATE IS NOT REALISTIC AND DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE ON ISSUES OF GOVERNANCE AND REPRESENTATION.

We (Viewers Corner News team) have in the past written article on this topic and we are doing so again. The number of lawmakers in the national assembly is not the main problem as Senator Rochas Okorocha is suggesting that each state should have only one senator representing it. The real problem is the huge amount of money each senator takes home both as salary and allowances which we (Viewers Corner News team) are pleading that they slash down a bit. If you put together the salaries and allowances of all the Senators in the country (Nigeria), then you would understand that Nigeria as a country is spending more than required for this group of lawmakers. Unemployment is high in Nigeria which should be controlled by creating employment for the unemployed. Somehow, salaries and allowances of all the lawmakers if slashed down completely can go a long way in fixing some of these issues facing Nigeria. Again, it is not the number of lawmakers in the country (Nigeria) that should be reduced, NO, Because being a lawmaker is also part of job creation for those Senators to earn a living. They should be left alone to do their job but slash down their salaries and allowances completely. Those ex-governors and others who are receiving pension allowances and at the same time working as Senators should pay some percentage from their money back to the federal government of Nigeria. This is what we (Viewers Corner News team) are proposing for the federal government of Nigeria and if implemented, it would help the country (Nigeria) immensely.
