It was reported that eight people convicted for the murder of Jamal Khashoggi (Saudi journalist) have been sentenced to prison by Saudi Arabian court. The eight people were sentenced on Monday, 7 September between seven to twenty years for the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. According to the report, five people were sentenced to 20 years in prison, one person to 10 years and two people to seven years for the killing. Jamal Khashoggi, a critic of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was last seen at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2, 2018 where he went to obtain documents for his impending wedding. His body was reportedly dismembered, removed from the building and his remains have not been found. A United Nations official and human rights campaigners including Khashoggi’s fiancee (Hatice Cengiz) have criticised the trial, saying that the mastermind of the murder is still free.
