SAMIA SULUHU HASSAN HAS BEEN SWORN IN AS TANZANIA’S PRESIDENT, BECOMING THE COUNTRY’S FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENT.

Samia Suluhu Hassan has been sworn in as Tanzania’s first female president, following the death of her predecessor John Magufuli. The swearing in ceremony took place at State House in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Friday, March 19, 2021. Samia Suluhu Hassan, the former vice president of Tanzania announced the death of her predecessor, stating that the 61 year old John Magufuli died on Wednesday of heart failure. This made vice president Samia Suluhu Hassan to take the place of late president John Magufuli as the Tanzania’s president. Late president Magufuli denied that coronavirus pandemic was a problem. His government made no effort to obtain vaccines or campaign for the use of masks and social distancing to fight the virus, but it was reported that some weeks before his death, he acknowledged that coronavirus was a danger.
