RIEK MACHAR, SOUTH SUDAN’S FORMER REBEL LEADER HAS BEEN SWORN IN AS THE COUNTRY’S FIRST VICE PRESIDENT.

Finally, Riek Machar and his former adversary President Salva Kiir have formed a unity government after twice pushing back deadlines to form government of national unity following a peace accord they signed in 2018. Riek Machar, the former rebel leader was on Saturday sworn in as South Sudan’s first vice president. This is one of the ways to end long sufferings and achieve unity in South Sudan after years of civil war in the country. The South Sudan civil war which was caused by ethnic cleansing killed about 400,000 people and displaced millions.
