The 38- year-old Mexican football player, Rafael Marquez Alvarez is among those who were sanctioned for a tie with drug trafficking organization headed by Raul Flores Hernandez as alleged. Also 43 entities in Mexico, including a soccer team and a casino (Grand Casino near Guadalajara) were sanctioned after several years of investigation of the drug trafficking organization. Rafael Marquez is the Mexican national team captain and plays for the Mexican soccer club Atlas in Guadalajara. He was formerly a defender for Barcelona, New York Red Bulls and Monaco. Marquez denied the accusation on Wednesday, saying he has nothing to do with such organization. All United States assets owned by these sanctioned persons and entities have been frozen and U.S citizens are forbidden to do any business with them.
