PUJITH JAYASUNDARA (SRI LANKA’S INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE) AND HEMASIRI FERNANDO (FORMER DEFENCE SECRETARY) WERE ARRESTED ON TUESDAY FOR FAILING TO PREVENT EASTER ATTACKS.

Viewers Corner News correspondent learned that Sri Lanka’s Inspector General of Police (Pujith Jayasundara) and Hemasiri Fernando (former defence secretary) were arrested on Tuesday, 2 July for failing to prevent Easter attacks on churches and luxury hotels. The country’s Attorney General (Dappula de Livera) who ordered for the arrest of both men said that they should be charged with grave crimes against humanity for failing to prevent the attacks which claimed the lives of over 250 people on April 21, 2019 despite repeated warnings from Indian intelligence over an impending attack by a local group (the National Thowheed Jamath). Also nine other senior police officers have been named as suspects by the attorney-general over the alleged security lapses. Pujith Jayasundara and Hemasiri Fernando denied all allegations and accused President Maithripala Sirisena of failing to follow established protocols in assessing threats to national security.
