PRESIDENT UHURU KENYATTA’S RE-ELECTION HAS BEEN UPHELD BY THE COUNTRY’S (KENYA) SUPREME COURT.

On Monday, November 20, 2017, Kenya supreme court in Nairobi upheld the re-election of president Uhuru Kenyatta in a repeat vote which the opposition boycotted, saying electoral reforms had not been made. The country’s highest court which was presided by David Maraga (Chief Justice) during the judgement of the petitions unanimously dismissed challenges by human rights activists and a politician who argued that the country’s last month election was not conducted according to the law. In September 2017, Kenya supreme court nullified the presidential election held in August citing irregularities and ordered a fresh election which was held last month (October). Raila Odinga, the opposition leader boycotted the repeated election. He said after the court’s ruling on Monday that he will not recognize the government of president Kenyatta as legitimate. Not less than 100 people have been killed since the country’s August 2017 presidential election.
