People around the world believe that the recent election in Equatorial Guinea is just a game, the president (Teodoro Obiang Nguema) will surely re-elect himself. This man (Teodoro Obiang Nguema) has been in power for about 36 years after executing his uncle (Francisco Macias Nguema) who was then the president of the country in an August 1979 military coup and since then, he has refused to conduct a free and fair election because he has no intention of leaving power. Why is it that most African leaders once they are elected to office, it becomes difficult to pull them out of office? This is not right. Normally Equatorial Guinea is a country with huge natural resources but still poverty is visible everywhere in the country, no good infrastructural facilities etc. The president and his close associates have personalized the country to their own advantage while majority of the citizens can barely feed well just like we have seen in other African countries. This is not right.
