PRESIDENT RODRIGO DUTERTE OF PHILIPPINES HAS TERMINATED A BILATERAL VISITING FORCES AGREEMENT WITH THE UNITED STATES.

President Rodrigo Duterte of Philippines has formally informed U.S of his decision to terminate the country’s bilateral Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA). President Duterte who has not hidden his grudges and hatred with the United States believed that it is better for his country (Philippines) to be more independent militarily. The United States which is the former colonial ruler of Philippines has a Defense tie with the country since 1950s. The Defense ties was governed by a Mutual Defence Treaty (MTD), and an Enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) made under former President Obama’s administration. The termination of the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA), signed in 1998 takes effect 180 days after one side has given notice.
