It was reported that President Joe Biden’s government will ask all United States attorneys appointed during ex-president Donald Trump administration to resign. According to the report, the process could start as early as Tuesday next week. Our correspondent in Washington learnt that only two attorneys will remain in office. John Durham will stay, not as U.S attorney for the district of Connecticut but as a special counsel to investigate the origins of the Russia probe. He was given extra protections for the inquiry by Attorney General William Barr. Also U.S attorney for Delaware (David Weiss) will not resign as federal officials in Delaware are investigating Hunter Biden (president Biden’s son) taxes. This process of removing U.S attorneys is common in the United States when new government takes over. Ex-president Donald Trump in 2017 ordered 46 U.S attorneys who were appointed during Barrack Obama’s administration to resign. In 2006, during George W. Bush administration, eight U.S. attorneys were sacked. Also in 1993 during Bill Clinton administration, Attorney General Janet Reno ordered all the 93 U.S attorneys to resign. The United States attorneys are top federal prosecutors of their districts and are political appointees.
