President Biden of the United States and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have warned Russia that it would pay a heavy price if it launches a second invasion of Ukraine. According to them, if Russia invades Ukraine, the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline would be halted. They made this known to the media after a bilateral discussion the two leaders had at the White House. This is Mr. Scholz’s first visit to the United States since succeeding Angela Merkel as Germany’s leader. Mr. Scholz also stated that severe measures have been prepared in advance by the United States and Germany if Russian soldiers enter Ukraine’s eastern border.
