The South African constitutional court has ordered president Jacob Zuma of Democratic Republic of South Africa to repay to the treasury within 105 days some of the $16 million he spent to upgrade his private rural home at Nkandla in KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa). The court which was headed by Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng stated that President Zuma failed to uphold, defend, respect and equally breached the constitution of his country (when he ignored the order of an anti-corruption constitutionally mandated watchdog (Public Protector Thuli Madonsela) to repay the cost of the non-security-related upgrades of his private home.
In 2014, Madonsela reported on the huge amount of government fund used by President Jacob Zuma to upgrade his Nkandla rural residence.
