On Monday, November 27, 2017, Mr. Patrick Chinamasa was appointed the Zimbabwe new acting finance minister by president Emmerson Mnangagwa. Patrick Chinamasa was Zimbabwean ex finance minister under former president Robert Mugabe but was moved to newly created ministry of cyber security during October 2017 reshuffle by ex president Mugabe’s government. Our correspondent also learned that Ignatius Chombo, the ousted finance minister of Zimbabwe will be held in custody until trial on December 8, 2017.
Mr. Chombo who was denied bail on Monday, November 27 was charge with three counts on corruption related issues which he allegedly committed twenty years ago. Ignatius Chombo was arrested after Zimbabwean military seized power from former president Robert Mugabe. He (Ignatius Chombo) was among the G40 political faction allied to Mugabe and his wife, Grace. Kudzanai Chipanga and Innocent Hamandishe (the former ZANU-PF Youth League leaders) who were also allied to G-40 were also detained till December 8 when their case will be heard.
