PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP EXPANDS TRAVEL BANS TO ADDITIONAL SIX COUNTRIES INCLUDING NIGERIA.

It was reported that the U.S President Donald Trump on Friday, 31 January issued a new travel ban which targets immigrants from six countries (Nigeria, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Sudan and Tanzania). Among the six countries added in the ban, four including Nigeria are African nations and three of them have Muslim-majority populations. Chad Wolf, the Acting Homeland Security Secretary said that those six countries did not meet the United States security and information-sharing standards. He also said that those countries failed to share information on terrorism suspects and criminals. The presidential proclamation stated that U.S would suspend the issuance of visas that can lead to permanent residency for nationals of Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar and Nigeria, but temporary visas for tourists, businesspeople, students and workers from those countries will not be affected. Also U.S will no longer issue diversity visas to citizens of Sudan and Tanzania. The new travel ban according to presidential proclamation will take effect on 21 February 2020.
