Prisons all over the world should be seen as correctional centre where offenders of the laws and orders go for rehabilitation. Ones that process is completed by the inmate, he or she can start living a normal life again which is good. President Buhari’s government changing Nigerian prison service to correctional service is a welcome development. We (Viewers Corner News team) would also use this opportunity to plead with President Buhari and his government to also change the ugly face of the prisons in Nigeria because when a prison bears the name as a correctional facility, then every requirement should be met for the comfort of all the inmates including facilities that would enable them learn various trades of their choice so that when they finally leave the prison environment, they would be able to fend for themselves without having to go back to crimes. The Nigerian public should also give them full support, mentally and otherwise so as to make their wound heal quickly, just like the saying goes “old things shall pass away and new life begins”. Again based on what we (Viewers Corner News team) know, Nigerian prisons can not be called correctional facilities when almost everything in prisons across the country (Nigeria) are not functioning properly. The federal government of Nigeria should provide more facilities for inmates which would make their lives better. This aspect is part of a healing process which we (Viewers Corner News team) are asking the federal government of Nigeria to provide for all the inmates in prisons in Nigeria. The federal government of Nigeria should also make provision to build new Correctional facilities in Nigeria which would accommodate more inmates who would in future go against the law of the country (Nigeria).
