In his few weeks in office as president of Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu has increased the salaries and benefits of elected officials to a very high level. Honestly, such a move at this critical point should not have been carried out in our opinion. We expected President Bola Tinubu to first figure out how he is going to pull Nigerians out of the economic hardship that is biting them severely. His government removed fuel subsidy, thereby making petroleum products in Nigeria out of reach for the ordinary man. Things are really hard in Nigeria, based on our findings. All these issues we mentioned here should have been addressed first before increasing salaries for those who are already living well. We believe that the salaries and benefits of elected officials in Nigeria as they are now are sufficient for them without any additional increase.
