PRESIDENT ALASSANE QUATTARA OF IVORY COAST HAS WON PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION AMID OPPOSITION BOYCOTT.

President Alassane Ouattara of Ivory Coast has won the presidential election to continue his third term in office as against the constitutional requirement of two tenures only. The controversial presidential election according to report was boycotted by the opposition. Pascal Affi N’Guessan and Henri Konan Bédié (the main opposition candidates) advised their supporters not to vote, stating that President Alassane Ouattara broke terms rules by coming out for a third term. President Alassane Ouattara won 94% of the vote and turnout of voters was about 54%. The country’s Constitutional Council will confirmed the election result. The Ivorian oppositions said they would create transitional government which would organise a new election. Pascal Affi N’Guessan got 1% of the vote and Henri Konan Bédié got 2%. Kouadio Konan Bertin, the fourth candidate also got 2%. Our correspondent in Abidjan gathered that thousands of people have fled the country (Ivory Coast) to neighbouring countries for fear of more violence.
