On Sunday, Pope Francis addressed the crowd in St. Peter’s Square, stating that “this horrible and pointless conflict was still going on after more than a month, and that it represents a failure for everybody.”
He lamented that parents are burying their children, the powerful decide, and the poor perish. Pope Francis added that war does not just destroy the present but also the future of society. The Pope reaffirmed his opposition to war, calling it cruel and sacrilegious. According to him, “Humanity must realize that the time has come to abolish war, to erase war from man’s history before it erases man from history.”
