Pope Francis appealed to world leaders during his visit to Japan to renounce nuclear weapons. Pope made the appeal on Monday, 25 November 2019, a day after he visited Hiroshima and Nagasaki (the two cities hit by atomic bombs during the World War II). He also comforted the victims of 2011 Fukushima nuclear weapon disaster. Japanese prime minister Abe said that Japan is committed to a world free of nuclear weapons. Pope Francis also supports the United Nations treaty which aimed at banning nuclear weapons.
