PALESTINIAN HOMES NEAR THE SEPARATION WALL IN SUR BAHER VILLAGE IN EAST JERUSALEM HAVE BEEN DEMOLISHED BY ISRAELI SOLDIERS.

Viewers Corner News correspondent reported that despite international outcry, the Israeli soldiers have demolished scores of Palestinian homes in Wadi al-Hummus near the separation wall in Sur Baher village in East Jerusalem. According to the information our correspondent gathered, hundreds of Israeli army/bulldozers stormed the village early morning of Monday, Palestinian families were woken up, moved out of their homes and the Israeli military/bulldozers started destroying the buildings. The Israeli military considers those homes closed to the separation wall a security risk. Last month, the Israeli Supreme Court ruled in favour of the military and set Monday, July 22 as the deadline to demolish the homes, thereby ending a seven year legal battle. The Israeli Supreme Court said that the structures violated a construction ban, that buildings close to the separation wall could provide cover for attackers. The Palestinian government accused Israel of using security as an excuse to force them out of the area in order to expand settlements. It also said that all settlements on occupied Palestinian lands are illegal under international law, that most of the buildings in Wadi al-Hummus neighbourhood are meant to be under the Palestinian Authority and civilian control under the 1993 Oslo Accords. Mohammad Shtayyeh (the Prime Minister of Palestine) said that the Palestinians would take the case to the International Criminal Court. The Sur Baher village which sits between occupied East Jerusalem and that of West Bank was captured and occupied by Israel in the 1967 war. France condemned the demolition, saying that it violated international law.
