OVER FOUR MILLION PEOPLE IN ASSAM HAVE BEEN STRIPPED OF CITIZENSHIP BY INDIA.

It was reported that Indian government has stripped over four million people in Assam of citizenship. The National Register of Citizens (NRC) published a draft recently and it includes those who were able to prove that they were in Assam before 1971 when millions of people fled Bangladesh to India during the country’s (Bangladesh) 1971 war of independence from Pakistan. Most people who fled Bangladesh settled in Assam (northeastern state of India) which shares a border with Bangladesh.
This move by Indian government has sparked fear of mass deportation of Muslims from Assam, similar to how Myanmar removed rights and protections of Rohingya community in 1982.
