Viewers Corner News correspondent in Tehran learnt that Babak Zanjani, an Iran billionaire tycoon and one of the richest men in the country has been sentenced to death for corruption. According to report, the Iranian court found Babak Zanjani guilty of pocketing the country’s hard earned currency ($2.8 billion) from oil sales during the period of ex- President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (2005 to 2013) when sanctions were imposed on the Iran’s banks as punishment for its nuclear programme. The judgment which was pronounced on Sunday, March 6, 2016 sentenced him to death including repaying the money he embezzled to the state.
Zanjani was arrested on December 2013 after the country’s current President Hassan Rouhani took over as Iran President and vowed to rid the country from corruption.
