President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey who traveled overnight from the seaside resort of Marmaris has reappeared after hours of uncertainty in Turkey addressing the country from Istanbul’s Ataturk airport on Saturday morning, he stated that the attempted coup in the country is over and that his government is in control. Viewers Corner News correspondent in Ankara gathered that at least 194 people died and about 1,140 people were injured in the night’s attack of the attempted coup in Turkey. Those died includes 47 civilians, 41 police officers, two soldiers and 104 alleged coup plotters. Also additional 1,154 people were injured and about 1,000 people were hospitalized in Istanbul and Ankara. Not less than 200 soldiers turned themselves in to the police in Ankara and 1,563 military officers were detained across Turkey according to report. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called the coup attempt “a treason” and stated that those involved will be dealt with.
The coup attempt was aborted after crowds answered President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s call to take to the streets and dozens of rebels abandoned their tanks. Turkish Airlines which was closed down by the protesters have resumed flights out of Ataturk.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan became the Turkey’s first elected president in 2014 after being in power as the country’s prime minister in 2002. Initially the presidency in Turkey was largely a ceremonial office until Erdogan took over the role and centralized most governmental power in that office.
