General Yakubu Gowon, who was Nigeria’s ex-military head of state, not only caused the civil war in Nigeria, which killed millions of Nigerians, but he also looted half of the Central Bank of Nigeria and took the money to the United Kingdom. These are the words of Tom Tugendhat, British MP. If General Yakubu Gowon had honoured and obeyed the agreement he signed during the Aburi meeting in Ghana with the late Ojukwu, perhaps the civil war would not have happened. Recently, General Yakubu Gowon boosted how he crushed the Ibos. If Nigeria is a place where injustice can be fought and those who were found guilty jailed, then there is no way General Yakubu Gowon should not be brought to book. We are hoping that someday a leader will emerge in Nigeria who will look into the atrocities committed by past leaders of the country, and when that time comes, those ex-leaders who put Nigeria and her citizens in unending hardship will pay a price for doing so. It shall come; it is just a matter of time.
