In the just concluded governorship election of Ondo state (Nigeria), voters were seen collecting money to cast their votes for a governorship candidate. By doing so, you have sold your conscience and the rights of choosing a credible leader for your state. Another point is that when you receive such money, it is a bribe. The candidate that bribed you, if he eventually wins the election, he would like to get his money back. Meaning that from the federal allocation the state governor receives to put things right in the state would be diverted to his private pocket because he regards the money which he bribed you with as his investment and at the end, the governor you elected as the leader of your state would not have enough money to work for the people of the state which is why poverty would not leave your state. Does this little analysis make sense to you? If it does, then do not take bribe to vote for any candidate during any election because you are putting yourself and the welfare of your family in poverty. If you vote for a candidate who is credible, though he may not bribe you but if such candidate wins the election, there would be enough money to work for the state where you and your family would be comfortable. Therefore, we (Viewers Corner News team) are appealing to Nigerian voters to have a rethink before collecting money and casting their votes for any candidate during elections.
