The Code of Conduct Tribunal has ruled on Thursday, October 5, 2015 that the Nigerian Senate President, Bukola Saraki’s trial must continue despite that Saraki has filed an appeal against the continuation of his case at the Supreme Court of Nigeria on Wednesday, October 4, 2015.
After a brief adjournment, the lead judge of the Tribunal (CCT), Justice Danladi Yakubu Umar ruled that the Senate President’s case must continue and asked Saraki’s lawyers to prepare for the continuation of the proceedings. On hearing that, Saraki’s lawyers, Abubakar Magaji and Raji Ahmed were furious and walked out of the courtroom accusing Justice Danladi Yakubu Umar of judicial rascality. The Code of Conduct Tribunal has adjourned the case till November 19, 2015 and advised the Senate President to engage the services of a new legal team or the tribunal will engage state counsels on his behalf.
Bukola Saraki is facing a 13 count charge on alleged corruption and false declaration of assets from 2003 to 2011 when he was the Governor of Kwara state.
