Viewers Corner’s correspondents in Nigeria visited some cities across the country (Nigeria) for fact findings, what they found was not so encouraging. During and after rainfalls, some cities across the country (Nigeria), become no go areas, most streets in the cities are flooded. Somehow that may be as a result of poor drainage system, some companies that have no knowledge of this job would take up the contract to build a drainage system and after construction, the rain will wash away all what they have built.
Another important factor is the attitude of Nigerian citizens, people living in some areas threw all sorts of dirty materials both on the road and in almost every gutter which will at the end block the free flow of water. Our Portharcourt correspondent saw a woman who just finished peeling her yam during his round trip, instead of taking the waste to a dustbin, she threw everything right inside the gutter, which is very wrong. Such an act is also being performed in almost all the cities in Nigeria, therefore Viewers Corner is appealing to the Nigerian authorities to engage more qualified drainage companies to handle this aspect of construction work so that effective result can be achieved. Secondly more educational awareness programs should be carried out so that the citizens of the country would understand that throwing all sorts of things inside the gutter is among the reasons there is no free flow of water during and after rainfalls. Most people are not aware of this fact and as this happens, the environment becomes very dirty and mosquito will be everywhere which would at the end bring all sorts of sickness to the citizens of the country (Nigeria). Again any nation of the world that controls her environment by making it clean, controlling noise pollution and advising citizens on the nature of what we consume (both the advantages and disadvantages) through awareness campaign programs may not spend huge amount of money on medical care for the citizens of that country.
We (Viewers Corner) are concern citizens of the world and care so much about the welfare of all the people world wide, sincerely we would continue to give advice on general matters that may hinder our ability as human beings from moving forward and living a healthy life.
