NATHAN CLEVERLY OF WALES DEFEATED JUERGEN BRAEHMER TO WIN GERMAN’S WBA LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BELT.

On Saturday, 1 October 2016, Nathan Cleverly of Wales won German’s WBA light heavyweight belt by beating Juergen Braehmer (the defending champion) by technical knockout. Juergen Braehmer surrendered after six evenly matched rounds, stating that he could not continue the competition due to a problem with his right elbow. The two powerful fighters threw heavy blows on each other in a fifth round but Braehmer quit after the sixth round. This is Nathan Cleverly’s second world title who is known as a busier fighter while Braehmer is more of counterattacks. Juergen Braehmer had defended the German’s WBA light heavyweight belt for six times since taking the vacant title against Marcus Oliveira in December 2013. His record dropped to 48-3 (35 knockout) while Nathan Cleverly has improved to 30-3 (15 knockout) after defeating Braehmer to win his second world title. In August 2013, Cleverly lost the WBO belt to Sergey Kovalev by technical knockout (TKO).
Congratulations to Nathan Cleverly of Wales.
