Western system of democracy which lots of people around the world believed to be the best may not work effectively in Nigeria and other third world countries until they do the needful. Even if it requires aggressive method to achieve that purpose, it should be better and beautiful. When every aspect of the system is under the control of rule of law, then it can be returned to a civilized system which is government of the people and for the people (Democracy) but for now, Nigeria and other third world countries need something else to get things done the right way. This leads us (Viewers Corner News team) to one of President Buhari’s “Decree of the 80’s”, this Decree was very effective and was called Decree number four (4). It is Viewers Corner News favourite Decree which Nigeria as a country needs even though they are practising democratic system of government which seem not to be working properly for the ordinary man on the street of Nigeria. Our ( Viewers Corner News team) reason for saying so is that if democracy in Nigeria is working, law and order will be obeyed, Judges would not take bribe and jail the innocent ones, the rich will be judged based on the rule of law and send to jail if they are found guilty, bribery and corruption among the people of Nigeria should be eradicated or reduced to the lowest level, the welfare of all the people of Nigeria should be the number one priority of all the leaders in Nigeria, the children of the less privilege should be able to attend good schools in Nigeria without having to pay huge sum of money, power supply in the country (Nigeria) should be constant for all Nigerians, governors of various states across Nigeria should not use state allocations for personal gains leaving the people of their states in abject poverty, roads all over the country (Nigeria) should be repaired and many more. The only system of government which can put Nigeria as a country in order is a more ruthless system of government, take it or leave it, that is the truth. Make a law like that of Decree four (4) or Decree two (2) of the 80’s under the leadership of President Buhari and implement them properly. The Decree four (4) of the 80’s stated that “if you carry drugs or join in the business of drugs, then the law shall send you to death. Nigeria can have similar laws in sensitive areas if they want the country to move to the next level. People of Nigeria love life so much and would not like to die but they also believe so much in testing. When president Buhari’s military government of the 80’s came to power with the Decree four (4) and Decree two (2), most Nigerians thought it would not work. President Buhari and late Tunde Idiagbon pleaded with Nigerians to obey the laws of the military government as at that time but they refused. Those who thought that it was a joke got it all wrong, they carried drugs and Decree four (4) sent them to death. After that episode, Nigerians then obeyed the decree, everyone stayed away from drugs until ex-military leader Mr Ibrahim Babangida who is the spoiler came with tricks and remove President Buhari’s military government. This means that Nigeria as a country can design her own democratic system which would put the country in a better shape by making laws and implementing them to the fullest, but the question now is; who would be the leader in Nigeria to carry out such method? The answer is no one. Again, when President Buhari was elected in 2015, his body language showed that they would be great changes in the country (Nigeria) but after a period of time, the people of Nigeria discovered that President Buhari as a democratic president is not the same President Buhari as a former military leader of the 80’s, then they came up with various means to loot the country’s treasury which they are doing till today. Even those around President Buhari are very corrupt, they are stealing money in billions but cover their tracks very well. The federal government of Nigeria under the leadership of President Buhari will pay allocations on monthly basis to states government across the country (Nigeria), governors would embezzle the money and tell a different story, still nothing would be done about it. If it were in the 80’s when President Buhari had zero tolerance of corruption, though military era but then no governor would do that and go free but today, President Buhari’s leadership is different. However, we (Viewers Corner News team) are calling on President Buhari and other leaders to re-examine the system of Nigeria to plan a better way forward for the country because things are getting out of hand in so many areas. Though President Buhari has performed better than all the past leaders that were there before he took over but more works need to be done.
