The majority of governors in Nigeria are still owing workers’ salaries and pensioners’ allowances for months, if not years. These governors collect their own salaries every month but refuse to pay those elderly ones who have served the country for years. We ask those governors in Nigeria who are owing these elderly people, how do they want them to survive and also pay their health care bills? This is completely unacceptable. The Viewers Corner News team condemns this terrible act in the strongest term. Look at governor Benedict Ayade of Cross River state donating huge sums of money to a Catholic Church in Cross River state while in his state, salaries of workers and pensioners’ allowances are not paid. This is unbelievable. Though there is nothing wrong with donating money to a church, let the issue of salaries and pension allowances be the number one priority. The good thing here is that the Bishop of the Catholic Church in Cross River State turned down the offer. He asked Governor Benedict Ayade to use the money to pay the salaries of workers because they needed it the most. This is so in most states across Nigeria. Some governors even went as far as buying very expensive vehicles for traditional rulers and others, which cost millions of naira, but refused to pay the salaries of workers and pensioners’ allowances. Again, the Viewers Corner News team is appealing to governors in Nigeria to find a solution on how allowances of these pensioners can be paid as when due. Owing them may lead to stress-related illness, which may result in death. It is absolutely wrong to owe workers’ salaries and pensioners’ allowances.
