It was reported that about 13 Mexican policemen lost their lives recently and 9 others wounded when suspected drug cartel hitmen shot them and set fire on their vehicles in El Aguaje (Michoacan state, Mexico). According to the information our correspondent gathered, the state police officers went to El Aguaje town in Aguililla municipality (Michoacan state) on Monday, 14 October to issue warrant when suspected drug hitmen fired on them and burnt their vehicles. Governor Silvano Aureoles of Michoacan state warned that the attackers would be brought to book because “no attack on the police will go unpunished”. This is one of the bloodiest attacks on security officials since December 2018 that President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador took office. For years, Michoacan state has been known for violence by drug cartels, criminal gangs and other armed self-defence groups. In August 2019, police found 19 dead bodies in the town of Uruapan, including 9 hung from a bridge.
