Mohammad Ishtayeh, the 61 year old new Palestinian Prime Minister and his cabinet have been sworn in. According to the report, Mohammad Ishtaye and his 24-member cabinet took the oath of office before President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank city of Ramallah. This is the 18th Palestinian government since the establishment of the Palestinian Authority in 1995. The presidential decree stated that Prime Minister Ishtaye will serve as the minister of interior and minister of religious affairs until when the two new ministers are appointed. Mohammad Ishtaye has PhD in economic from University of Sussex, United Kingdom. He is a longtime adviser of President Mahmoud Abbas and a senior member of Abbas’ Fatah party. The new government consists of 24 ministers from Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Fatah party, the FIDA party, the Palestinian Popular Struggle Front, Palestinian People’s Party and independent candidates, excluding the Islamic Hamas movement and Islamic Jihad.
