The Bauchi state governor in Nigeria is among those who are allegedly opposing President Bola Tinubu’s tax reform bill because he knows that if such a bill becomes law, his state will not get much money from the federal government of Nigeria. Meaning that wasteful spending and corruption would not be there anymore. Now hear this: we have studied the Bauchi state budget and discovered that there are some aspects of the budget that should not have been there; perhaps the governor believed that when he received his monthly allocation from the federal government of Nigeria, including the ones he got from the internally generated revenue, then some irrelevant and corrupt areas would be covered. Again, some state governors in Nigeria rely so much on the federal allocation and fail completely to work hard to earn money from their states, which is so unfortunate. Now look at a governor of a state budgeting about 400 million naira to purchase a few computers as alleged, instead of using the money to fight hunger and poverty in Bauchi state. Honestly, this is so sad. However, the Viewers Corner News team would use this opportunity to plead with governors in Nigeria to choose their priorities wisely. They should work more on trying to solve the economic hardship facing the people of their various states and stop reckless spending. Governors should invest in education, health, agriculture, and other viable projects; doing so would reduce or eradicate completely the economic hardship that people are passing through daily in various states across the country.
