Melina Boughedir, a 27 year old French woman and mother of four was on Sunday, June 3, 2018 sentenced to life in prison by an iraqi court for joining Islamic State jihadist group. Boughedir was detained in the northern city of Mosul last year (February 2017) and was initially sentenced to seven months in prison for entering the country illegally. She was set to be deported back to France, but another court ordered her re-trial under Iraq’s anti-terrorist law. Prosecutors presented new evidence, including pictures of her French husband posing with Islamic State fighters. Melina Boughedir was found guilty on Sunday for being a member of the jihadist group (Islamic State).
