Maria Sharapova, the Russian 30 year old former world number one has won her first title since her 15-month doping ban after testing positive for the banned substance meldonium in 2016. She defeated Aryna Sabalenka (19 year old from Belarus) 7-5, 7-6 (10-8) at the Tianjin Open on Sunday, October 15, 2017. The five-time Grand Slam winner, Maria Sharapova’s win over Aryna Sabalenka has pushed her to No. 57 of the rankings of the women’s WTA Tour on Monday. This means that she has direct entry into January’s (2018) Australian Open.
