Malka Leifer, 54 year old Israeli woman who was accused of 74 counts of rape and sexual abuse when she was a principal at Adass Israel School in Elsternwick (a Jewish girls’ school in Melbourne, Australia) has been extradited from Israel. It was reported that Malka Leifer was accused of sexually abusing three female students at the Adass Israel School in Elsternwick between 2001 and 2008 when she was the principal of the school. Malka Leifer fled to Israel in 2008 when her sexual abuse was reported. In 2014, Australian officials formally sought her extradition but Malka Leifer’s extradition process was delayed after her lawyers argued that she was mentally unfit to stand trial. The Israeli Supreme Court dismissed her final appeal in December 2020 and signed the extradition order for her to return to Australia and face trial for the alleged rape and sexual abuse. Viewers Corner News correspondent in Melbourne learned that the former principal Malka Leifer appeared before the Melbourne magistrates court on Thursday, 28 January 2021 through video link after her extradition from Israel. Malka Leifer remained silent during the court hearing, when magistrate Johanna Metcalf asked if she could hear her, she did not talk despite police confirming the technology was working.
