MALAWI’S CONSTITUTIONAL COURT HAS ANNULLED THE COUNTRY’S PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION HELD ON 21 MAY 2019 AND ORDERED A RE-RUN.

Our (Viewers Corner News) correspondent in Lilongwe reported that Malawi’s presidential election that was held on 21 May 2019 which declared President Peter Mutharika a winner has been annulled on Monday by Malawi’s Constitutional Court. The court also ordered that a new presidential re-run be held within 150 days. Malawi’s President Peter Mutharika was declared the winner of the election despite complaints of irregularities including result sheets altered with correction fluid. President Mutharika who has been leading the country since 2014 won election which he was seeking his second term with a 38.57% of the votes, Lazarus Chakwera (opposition party leader) got 35.41% and Saulos Chilima (Vice President who formed his own party) had 20.24%. Lazarus Chakwera and Saulos Chilima rejected the results and filed a petition to the High Court to nullify the results. On Monday, the panel of five judges unanimously annulled the election and ordered a re-run.
