LATE PROFESSOR DORA AKUNYILI (OFR), EX-NAFDAC BOSS WAS A GREAT WOMAN OF HONOUR. VIEWERS CORNER NEWS TEAM REMEMBERS HER EVERYDAY.

Late Professor Dora Akunyili during her days as the NAFDAC Boss put in her best to ensure that the consumption of fake drugs in Nigeria would stop, she pursued the fight to the extreme. Some Nigerian businessmen who made their wealth by killing the people of the country (Nigeria) through fake drugs never liked her but as a woman and a mother who wanted the best for her country (Nigeria), she stood her ground by putting in place a standard which no one would ever forget. She wanted the importation and manufacturing of fake drugs and other related items to stop so that those businessmen in Nigeria who formed the habit of doing these businesses would look for a genuine way to earn a living. In one of her quotes, she said; “our wants may be too many but our needs are very little”. Meaning that corruption and greed have turned so many people in Nigeria into doing so many bad things to their people all in the name of getting very rich. Again, according to late Professor Dora Akunyili, those business men importing those killer drugs believed that once you have too much money, everything is alright which is not true in most cases. Late Professor Dora Akunyili also said that killing corruption anywhere it is found would be the only way Nigeria would achieve her full potential. If you look at all the state governors in Nigeria, not meeting up with their responsibilities in creating infrastructures to better the lives of their people has lots to do with corruption. The wants of those governors may be too many but their needs are very little. Instead of those governors to pursue their needs, they would go after their wants which are numerous and at the end, it would lead them into stealing state funds thereby leaving the people of their states to suffer unending economic hardship. Based on late Professor Dora Akunyili’s quote, “Our wants may be too many but our needs are very little”, we (Viewers Corner News team) are calling on governors, ministers and other leaders in positions of authority in Nigeria to pursue their needs only. Pay workers and pensioners their salaries and allowances, it is the people’s money and not for the governors only. Create infrastructures that would benefit the people of your states, this is what leadership is all about.
