Viewers Corner News correspondent in Lagos met some of the traders that had their shops in the owonifari market in Oshodi, Lagos (Nigeria) which was demolished by the Lagos state government recently, they narrated their bitter stories to our correspondent. Some of those traders said that the most annoying part was that they were not given enough time to park their goods, the law enforcement agents were using real force on them, they also said that they were directed by the state government to eject them. This means starting all over again after many years of hard work, all their goods were destroyed. Our (Viewers Corner News) take on this is that we believe that before any government decides to carry our such operation, notice may have been given to the traders but sometimes some traders may not take it serious, we assumed so because some traders would want to wait till the last minute before parking their goods, then at that point it may have been too late. On the other hand, before a state government should carry out such massive operation, they should make sure that an alternative place has been made for the traders to move into where they would continue their business therefore providing a new place for the traders before demolishing the old place would have been the best option. In future if such exercise should take place, Viewers Corner News would suggest that the Lagos state government or every other state government in Nigeria should please make adequate provision to resettle the traders because if someone’s means of livelihood is destroyed, how would the person survive with his family? Viewers Corner News is appealing to both the state and the federal government to always have a second thought when such exercise is being implemented, somehow if you destroy someone’s means of livelihood, the individual may take to crime or decides to do more things that may go against the law of the country just to survive. Please let us act wisely by saving the lives of all the citizens of Nigeria at all times.
