KYRIAKO MITSOTAKIS WINS GREECE’S GENERAL ELECTION, ALEXIS TSIPRAS (THE INCUMBENT PRIME MINISTER) CONCEDED DEFEAT.

The 51-year-old Kyriakos Mitsotakis of centre-right New Democracy party has won Greece general election held on Sunday, 7 July 2019. He won with 39.85% votes over Alexis Tsipras (the incumbent prime minister) of left wing Syriza party, which has been in power since 2015. Alexis Tsipras came second with 31.53% of the vote and has called his rival Kyriakos Mitsotakis to concede defeat. The handover of power will take place on Monday, 8 July 2019. The win has given New Democracy party a majority seats of 158 in the Greek parliament. Kyriakos Mitsotakis (the son of former Prime Minister Konstantinos Mitsotakis) has promised change to the country during the party’s election win celebration in Athens.
