It was reported that Qatar’s emir (Sheikh Tamim) was invited by King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia to the 40th session of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit, amid a two-year-old diplomatic crisis in the region. The annual meeting of the Gulf regional bloc will be held in Riyadh (Saudi capital) on Tuesday, 10 December 2019. The Qatar’s foreign ministry that made the information public, stated in its website that the Emir (Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani) received a written message from King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to attend the GCC Supreme Council 40th session. The ministry did not state if the country (Qatar) has accepted the invitation. Since June 2017, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members; Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain and Egypt imposed a land, air and sea blockade on Qatar, accusing Qatar of supporting terrorism. Qatar has strongly denied the allegations. The GCC’s secretary-general stated that its 40th summit will review regional and international political developments as well as the security situation in the region and its effects on the security and stability of the GCC countries. The members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are the Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirate (UAE), Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar.
