JUNKO TABEI, THE FIRST WOMAN TO CLIMB MOUNTAIN EVEREST IS DEAD, AGED 77.

Junko Tabei, a Japanese mountaineer who became the first woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1975 and also to climb all seven summits (tallest mountains) on every continent is dead. She died recently 41 years after climbing Everest (the world’s highest mountain) in a hospital outside of Tokyo (Japan). Tabei broke world’s record at the age of 35 in 1975 when she climbed the highest mountain (Everest) in the world and this is a time when most Japanese women were expected to stay at home and perform domestic duties. Before her death, she had reached the highest peaks in over 70 countries like in Niger, Luxembourg, Belgium, Oman etc.
Junko Tabei was born on September 22, 1939 in Miharu (a town in Fukushima, north of Tokyo) and she became interested in climbing mountains at the age of 10 when her school took them as a group to climb Mount Nasu. May her soul rest in peace.
