Judge Siraj Desai of Western Cape High Court in Cape Town (South Africa) was on Thursday July 7, 2018 sentenced Henri Van Breda to three life in prison for murdering his wealthy parents and brother with axe on January 27, 2015. Henri Van Breda was also handed a 15-year sentence for maiming his sister (Marli) at the time of the attack and another 12 months for obstruction of justice, the sentences will run concurrently. His sister suffered severe head injuries in the 2015 rampage that Judge Siraj Desai described as “cold-blooded” murder. The 23-year-old Henri Van Breda was emotionless and showed no remorse throughout his sentencing. He denied murdering his parents (Martin, 54 years and Teresa, 55 years) and his brother (Rudi, 21 years) and maiming his sister, claiming that an intruder entered his family’s affluent housing estate (De Zalze Golf Estate in Stellenbosch, outside Cape Town). His family lived in Australia for some years before returning to South Africa and he (Henri Van Breda) was allegedly enrolled at the University of Melbourne before the attack.
