JOSE FILOMENO DOS SANTOS, THE SON OF ANGOLA FORMER PRESIDENT WAS RECENTLY CHARGED WITH FRAUD RELATED OFFENCES.

Jose Filomeno dos Santos, the Angola ex-president’s son was recently charged with fraud related offences. According to the information our correspondent in Luanda gathered, Jose Filomeno dos Santos is being accused of fraud, misappropriation of funds, money laundering and associating with criminals. When he headed Angola’s $5 billion oil-fuelled sovereign wealth fund, he allegedly executed a transfer of $500 million from the country’s funds account with the central bank to a London branch of Credit Suisse, though the money was later returned to Angola. He was sacked from the post by President Joao Lourenco, the new president of Angola who assumed office on September 26, 2017. Also Valter Filipe da Silva, the former Central Bank governor (Angola) was charged alongside Filomeno dos Santos. The two men were granted bail but were forced to surrender their passports.
